Wingless Angels

Fallen so far
Limp frames twisting
And shattering the glassy atmosphere.
Shards accompany
As they soar without control
Sharp with regret
They pierce a dozen hearts.
Unable to be taped up
For so many are lost.

Stranded beneath the bleak stratosphere
trapped inside cruel gravity
they breathe a sigh with the waves which lap endlessly
soothing sore feet
so unused to walking.

Staring at the markings
Never touched but never shunned
A treatment born of misunderstanding
Hidden alignments foreshadow
As they turn to show their stubs,
The last fragment of their fiery wings.

And then they trudge away,
dragging their invisible cuffs
Ironclad and stony,
for they are a broken force
of fallen angels.
